Why is this important?
Increasingly, where people live is not where they work. Understanding the number of residents who work outside Walla Walla County is helpful for understanding many aspects of life in the county, these include income, transportation, and housing.
This indicator measures the number and share of people employed in the Walla Walla County, who live outside of the county. The Kennewick-Richland Metropolitan Area is offered as a benchmark.
Where are we?
During 2022 the number of residents living in Walla Walla County but working outside the area was:
- 8,412, increasing from 4,370 or by 92.5% since 2002.
During 2022 the share of residents living in, but working outside:
- Walla Walla County was 24%, increasing from 16.3% since 2002.
- Kennewick-Richland MSA was 23.4%, increasing from 18.3% since 2002.
