1.2.11 Total GDP of the Top-5 Major Sectors & Total GDP Growth Rate - in 2017 Dollar Values
Why is this important?
Metro gross domestic product (GDP) is one of the most comprehensive measures of the Walla Walla area's economic activity. Metro GDP represents an effort by the U.S. government, specifically the Bureau of Economic Analysis, to give a snapshot of local economies in a way that mirrors the methods of national income and product accounting.
Both the public and the private sector can benefit from knowing this indicator and can use it to determine what industries are driving the growth in the economy of the two county (Walla Walla and Columbia) Walla Walla metro area. Metro GDP figures also cover the activities (as measured by compensation) of federal (including the military) activity, as well as state and local governments (including K-12 teachers).
This indicator measures the metro GDP by top-5 major sectors and their share of the overall GDP of the Walla Walla Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). Washington State and the U.S. are offered as benchmarks. Additional information, including the total GDP for each of the offered sectors, can be found in the “Download Data” section.
